Identifying a Citation for a Chapter of a Book

Example:   

Lester, P. B., Vogelgesang, G. R., Hannah, S. T., & Kimmey T. (2010). Developing courage in followers: Theoretical and applied perspectives. In C. L. Pury & S. J. Lopez (Eds.), The psychology of courage: Modern research on an ancient virtue (pp. 187-207). American Psychological Association.

Characteristics:

  • Author(s) of the chapter:  Lester, P. B., Vogelgesang, G. R., Hannah, S. T., & Kimmey T.
  • Copyright date of the book:  2010
  • Title of the chapter:  Developing courage in followers: Theoretical and applied perspectives
  • Editors of the entire book:  C. L. Pury & S. J. Lopez
  • In:  "In" will appear before the editors and title of the book
  • Title of the book:  The psychology of courage: Modern research on an ancient virtue
  • Page numbers of the chapter in the book:  pp. 187-207
  • Publisher:  American Psychological Association

Locate:

   Via the Bethel University Library Webpage:

  • Sign into your LibSearch account
  • Locate the LibSearch search box 
  • Place a search in the search box for the book's title (NOT the title of the chapter)
  • Note if the book is held in the Bethel University Library and what its location and call number are
     
  • If the book is not held in the Bethel University Library (or is already checked out), check to see if it held at a partner library
    • Locate the Get it from Other Libraries > Get it from other locations sections of the book's record in LibSearch
    • Locate the Need a chapter? box
    • Click on Get It
    • Fill out the information in the Request Digital Version box
    • Click on the Send link
  • You will receive an email when the chapter is available for digital pick-up

If the book is not available at or via the Bethel University Library, or a partner library, you have the option of requesting a digital copy of the chapter from a non-partner library:

Via the Bethel University Library Webpage:  

  • Locate the Library Accounts link
  • Click on Login to LibSearch
  • Click on Bethel students, faculty, and staff
  • Login with your Bethel username and password
  • Click on New Search at the top of the page
  • Click on Advanced Search
  • At Search for:  click on Beyond Partner Libraries
  • Enter a search for the book in the search box, narrowing your search by the Material Type: Books
  • Click on Still didn't find what you need? Click here to send a request 
  • Verify that Book/Chapter, Dissertation/Thesis, or Media is selected as the Citation Type
  • Click on the box in front of I only need a specific chapter or pages
  • Fill out the request form
  • Click on Send Request 
  • You will be notified via email when the chapter is available for digital pick up
