Faculty Guide to the Bethel University Library

Liaison Librarians

A liaison librarian is assigned to each department or program.  These librarians support you and your students by:

  • Providing research assistance through in-person and online appointments, email, chat, phone, and drop-in requests at the research desk in the library
  • Developing instruction sessions to promote information literacy and research skills development
  • Consulting on course or assignment design and locating course resources
  • Suggesting materials for the library collection to support your department/program
  • Creating and maintaining research guides that highlight subject-specific resources and research tools

Instruction Sessions

Instruction sessions can be scheduled for online or in-person courses. These sessions can range from brief introductions about relevant resources to a series of sessions that address various aspects of the research process. Your liaison librarian can ensure that lessons are targeted to meet student needs for the particular assignment or paper.

Liaison librarians are glad to come to your physical or virtual classroom for instruction. We also have an instruction space in the library that can be reserved for these sessions.

Contact your liaison librarian early in the semester to guarantee they are available on your desired dates. It's helpful to schedule the session after  students have chosen topics and are ready to actively work on research or will have the ability to immediately apply the skill that is introduced.

Requesting Material for the Library

  • Our collections are built primarily to support our curriculum, with the important input of our faculty. While we have an annual cycle for ordering new materials, we welcome your suggestions at any time. Submit these requests in whatever way works best for you--via our Suggest a Purchase form, email, pages from publisher catalogs, etc.
  • For assistance with the selection of materials, contact your Library Liaison or the Collection Development Librarian, Rhonda Gilbraith (651.638.6221 / rhonda-gilbraith@bethel.edu)
