ERIC (EBSCOhost)

A guide to effectively using ERIC to search for education related articles, including strategies, finding full text, emailing or printing articles, exporting to RefWorks, and more.

Citation Discovery

Citation tracking is one of the most effective strategies for extending the quantity, quality, and depth of your research. EBSCO has introduced a new feature they're calling Citation Discovery, in which you can easily see from the record level who has cited a particular source and also which sources that same record is citing. While it doesn't show up for every record, when it does, it's a goldmine!

Cited by

At the brief record level you may see something like this:

When you click on the cited by button  a side panel opens displaying articles that have cited the current record. Many of these are also hyperlinked, which greatly facilitates tracking them down.

References

When you click on a results's title to display the full record, you may see a tab for references cited within the current article alongside one for the cited-by list.

Most of the reference lists are extensive, so with these two features you can quickly scan backward and forward in the scholarly conversation.
