Zero Cost Course Resources Initiative Guide (Open Educational Resources (OER) / BU Library eResources)

A collaboration between BCcampus and CAPER-BC. The goal of the Accessibility Toolkit is to provide the resources needed so that each content creator, instructional designer, educational technologist, librarian, administrator, teaching assistant, etc. has the opportunity to create a truly open and accessible textbook.

Although created for CUNY staff, it still provides good information on:
Creating Accessible Content: Tips on how to create accessible Word docs, PDFs, Images, Videos and other multimedia
Platforms: What OER platforms are accessible? What are the pros and cons of using each platform?
Evaluating your OER site: Determine if your site is accessible and see how to fix issues on your site
VPATs: Voluntary Product Accessibility Template: Collection of VPATs from various vendors to see relevant information on how a vendor’s product or service claims to conform to the Section 508 Standards.

Can inform faculty, staff, and students how the free and open etextbooks meet 15 accessibility “checkpoints” that could impact the learning of learners with a range of disabilities.

Supported by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs. A collection of eBooks for people with reading barriers--who have a print disability that severely inhibits or prevents them from reading traditional print materials.
