RefWorks (Citation Manager)

What are tags?

Tags are words used to describe your references/citations.

Adding tags to references provides an additional way to organize and manage your research across folders in your RefWorks account.

NOTE:  RefWorks automatically supplies tags to some references

How do I create tags?

  • Click on My Folders
  • Locate the reference to which you would like to add a tag
  • Click on the box in front of the reference
  • When the record for the reference appears in the right column, click on Add Tags

  • Either choose from the list of possible tags that appear, or type your own tag in the Tags field
  • Click on Save in the upper right corner

How do I search for references using tags?

Option 1

  • Click on Tags in the left column
  • Either:
    • Click on one of the tags in the list that appears
                                            OR
    • Click on Search for Tags and enter the name of a tag for which you would like to search
      • Click on the tag in the list that appears

Option 2

  • Click on the Search icon at the top of the page

  • Place a search for a tag and Enter, or click on one of the word/phrase options that appear as you are entering your search

A list of references should appear that have that tag
